What would you like to see in the Walkers’ future?
The writers have another blog entry up to answer some questions from the comments to their first post-strike entry. No, they’re not sharing any gossip. Yes, there’s a new intern. Yes, they know the real governor of Michigan is a woman, but they make an effort to fictionalize current political figures, lest people think the governor of Michigan is really a spineless turncoat like the guy we saw in “Compromises.”
And, no, they’re not going to say where the plot is going from here, other than they’ll be coming back with a bang and the resolution will be fantastic. “We are working furiously to do justice to the stories we’ve begun, and until we have a more solid sense of those it would be foolhardy to raise false hopes with hopeful speculation,” writes blogger Dan — but that’s not something we have to worry about, right? False hopes and hopeful speculation are what fan blogs and comments are all about!
In the comments to my post on the show returning, Colleen has opened the conversation with the things she’d personally like to see:
St. Patrick’s Day episode: Walkers are half-Irish, after all (and aren’t McCallisters Irish, too?)Savage Sarah, with Graham or guest (Noah! and Tom Everett Scott needs to be rescued from Cashmere Mafia)
Getaway road trip to Borrego Springs, California during wildflower season (Attended very romantic wedding there in 2005)
Better writing for Jason! The whole Malaysia thing-oy. And lose the halo!
I think she’s going to have to wait until next season for the St. Patrick’s day idea, since the show’s not coming back until April and it’s bad enough these election episodes have been off timeline-wise. The rest, though, are certainly worth considering. What would you add to her list?
I’ve been trying to figure out some things to keep us amused in the seven weeks or so between new episodes, and one thing I’m planning is a consideration of each character — where they’ve been, where they’re at, and where we’d like them to go. Share your thoughts in the comments here and I’ll add them into the mix.
If the writers don’t yet have a “solid sense” of where the stories are going, we might as well give them some good ideas.

What I’d like to see? Daydreaming:
1. Nora/Isaac to explore the possibilities of a relationship.
2. Sarah, not get hooked up with Graham straigth away, but perhaps have a little room to ‘play’, Noah indeed comes to mind. If Graham wants her, he should put in some effort. Now, it’s too easy.
3. Kitty, for Robert to find out that past scandals were NOT that easily swept under the rug as he tought, for instance, for the whole helicopter thing to come back and bite him where it really hurts. Kitty to be unexpectly (as in ‘not planned’) pregnant in the season’s finale. For Robert to ‘lose the halo’ as well.
4. Tommy/Julia, no idea. No idea. Maybe they should try to do what Walkers do best….? And have some fun? Because they sure have had their share of misery. OTOH, Julia finding out she pregnant. Tommy may be sterile, but perhaps the other guy wasn’t.
5. Kevin. Mhmm. For Kevin to ask Scotty to marry him. I know, too impossible for American tv, but hey I’m Dutch, for me it’s an option.
I would like him to pop the question in the season’s finale. And NOT to have to wait for Scotty’s ‘yes’ until the start of next season. ;-D (Very important. I don’t want to wait for the answer but go into the summer hiatus with a happy feeling)
Maybe get a good case to work on. I like “Kevin in courtroom”.
For Scotty to get financially more independant from Kevin.(Better job? Promotion?)
Let’s not forget Jason in this… What I’d really like to see? (Impossible I know) But during one of those charity things, for Jason to run into Chad Barry. Jason was already interested in him (Chad’s comment to Kevin in 1.14) and now that Chad is no longer in the closet, I wouldn’t mind him shake up Jason’s world a bit. Just a few episodes.
For Jason and Kevin to work things out and at least be friends again. I also liked the way Jason and Scotty got along.
6. Justin. GET A JOB!!!! Call Tyler!
7. Rebecca/Holly - no clue what to do with them. I’m sure someone can come up with something.
8. Saul. Please give Saul someone to love. He so deserves it. I liked Milo, but this Evan had charms too.

For me too, like Sylviane said:
1. Give Justin a job! He has medical training so it’s not like he’s unemployable.
2. Kitty/Kevin. I feel Kevin still feels some resentment towards the way he was outed by Kitty. I want to see them resolve it and talk a little more about William’s reaction (this is more for season 3 I think)
3. Kevin/Scotty/Jason. The whole Jason storyline was rushed as we all know,so I’m not really feeling the love they had. If Jason was able to get Kevin to confess his love to him in such a short amount of time than I think we should see some nice scenes of them reminiscing at least a bit about their love and how things didn’t work out the way they hoped.
I hope Jason realizes that he really hurt Kevin and apologizes. I want him to realize he still loves Kev and wants to be with him. I want an actual love triangle with Kevin not wanting to hurt Scotty but still having feelings for Jason. And Jason still being in love with Kevin but trying to keep his distance. Scotty sensing the sexual tension between these two and being afraid of losing Kevin. At this point I don’t care for either of the 2 BF’s. But I want Kevin in a solid relationship so we can shift the focus on his career. He’s a lawyer for god’s sakes. Give us a few scenes with him in court or something. Show him interacting with his coworkers. We know he’s out at work, but lets see how out and how his coworkers treat him. And could we give Kevin some friends too please?
4. Sarah. I want her to be more fun. Have roadtrip sarah back for at least one more episode:). I want to have her in a bar with Kevin and Kitty getting drunk and having those fun drunk convo’s they have hihi. But I thinks it’s too early to give Sarah a steady BF, so this Graham thing should go a little slower.
5. And lastly I want Ida back. I want her to drive Norah just a little more crazy, find out Saul is gay and off course see how close she is to Kevin now that she knows he is gay

I like your suggestions overall, Shanti. I’m in total agreement that the writers should focus on keeping Kevin in a committed relationship. My problem with your scenario (a prolonged triangle) is that it would forestall any solid relationship because a triangle, by definition, means there will be a constant back-and-forth for Kevin.
Enough already, I say. I would be fine with Kevin/Jason getting more complete closure regarding their relationship, but Kevin’s seemingly made his decision and I want to see him stick to it and see how Kevin/Scotty navigate being in an actual relationship.

Yeah I guess me wanting a triangle just for the excitement and fun of it while wanting a nice and stable relationship for Kevin is very contradicting. The main reason I want it is because I feel Kevin have a “stabler”(is that a word) relationship with Jason than he can with Scotty. I want Scotty gone and a triangle could make sense.
I don’t hate Scotty, but he is too much of a drama queen, and while he is so loving and doting towards Kev I feel Jason made Kevin be a little more grown up. Not be afraid of expressing his feelings. And I think Kevin has more respect for Jason than he had for Scotty, because he knows Jason would never take crap from like Scotty did/does.

Shanti, I don’t want Kevin to be ‘grown up’, frankly, I think Jason is boring, like Robert. I don’t care about either the campaign or the religious crises. The McCallisters just don’t capture my attention.
But I also recognise ‘hot’ when I see it. And that goes for Rob/Eric. So let ‘hot’ hang around for a while, but not too close to Kevin. (Now there’s nothing wrong with the ACTORS, I like them both, but their CHARACTERS are boring.)
Mmhm, I have to stand up for Scotty. He USED to be a dramaqueen, but I feel he has matured. I can understand his fear. Jason has been hanging over their relationship like a dark blanket. But now it seems to be resolved and Scotty was far more relaxed in the last episode.
Scotty won’t take ‘crap’ from Kevin. He’ll just respond differently then Jason, but he’ll let Kevin know if he disagrees. Loud and clear. No worries.

Have you seen this? “What Might Have Been: A Different Perspective on Brothers & Sisters”

This is Season 2 in an alternate TV universe. Some twists don’t work for me, most do (especially Sarah/Julia, Saul, and Kevin/Jason/Scotty). Some are still viable. What do you think?

Thanks for mentioning that article, Colleen. I read it and … wow, that sounds like a really depressing show. If that’s where Baitz would have taken it, and I suppose there’s some reason to believe that, I’m not sorry he’s gone.
What I’ve liked best about this show is its ability to mix the dark and the light. And when it’s had to go darker, it’s at least gotten it over with quickly.

You’re right, guess I REALLY meant most of the plots don’t work but a couple do, for me anyway. The Kevin/Jason/Scotty/Saul storyline was more believable and affecting than what we got, and I was intrigued by the Nora/Sarah/Julia arc.

I liked the idea of Kevin/Saul bonding (and I hope we’ll still get that this season), but I wouldn’t have been crazy about Kevin/love interests story that is proposed. It would have made him even more commitment0phobic than last year–hardly what I’d call progress. Even though Kevin’s had lovelife drama this season, it was a different sort than Season 1. Less about being afraid of commitment, but rather the stress of long-distance and lack of communication (and how, despite Kevin’s sincere efforts to stay the course, it ultimately couldn’t survive under such strain).

I agree that the one major area of improvement would have been Nora/Julia/Sarah. For my money, the season’s biggest misstep was the Lena mess–which not only was a bad storyline in of itself, but robbed Julia of a post-partum depression storyline that was organic and could have led to great interaction among the women. Wasted potential, that.

Would love a little more insight to Justin’s experience in Iraq (re: flashbacks??). Maybe have an old army buddy come to town? And he definitely needs a job… paramedic?
