Tonight: That episode we’ve been worrying about

by Terri

New episode tonight! Here’s what ABC’s press release says we have to look forward to:

A Father Dreams - Elizabeth’s illness and her uncle’s sacrifice cause a volatile and emotional confrontation between Kevin and Tommy that could make or break their relationship as brothers. Meanwhile, Saul reintroduces a high school crush (guest starring Nigel Havers as Roger Grant) to Nora, and Justin finally decides to leave the nest, on “Brothers & Sisters,” SUNDAY, JANUARY 4 (10:01-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

“Brothers & Sisters” stars Dave Annable as Justin Walker, Maxwell Perry Cotton as Cooper Whedon, Kerris Lilla Dorsey as Paige, Sally Field as Nora Holden, Calista Flockhart as Kitty Walker, Balthazar Getty as Thomas Walker, Rachel Griffiths as Sarah Whedon, Luke Macfarlane as Scotty Wandell, Rob Lowe as Senator Robert McCallister, Sarah Jane Morris as Julia Walker, Matthew Rhys as Kevin Walker, Ron Rifkin as Saul Holden, Emily VanCamp as Rebecca Harper and Patricia Wettig as Holly Harper.

Guest starring are Nigel Havers as Roger Grant, Paula Rhodes as Miss Mitchell, Gayla Johnson as Janet, Michael Edwin as employee #1, Tymberlee Chanel as Vanessa, Ellery Sprayberry as the girl, Marley and Spencer Barth as Elizabeth Walker. “A Father Dreams” was written by Jennifer Levin and Michael Foley and directed by Tom Amandes.”

Which doesn’t tell us much about the worrisome nature of that preview, what with Kevin and Julia apparently canoodling. Fortunately, a recent post on the writer’s blog Bloggers and Sisters confirms that those scenes are in fact from a dream/nightmare:

The promos stirred up some heat with clips of Kevin and Julia in the throes of passion — but don’t shoot your TV yet, it was all a (painkiller-induced) dream.

After setting those fears to rest, the post offers some more info about what we’ll be watching tonight:

Kevin has troubling dreams regarding the revelation that he is Elizabeth’s biological father, dreams which bring out strong emotions from both Kevin and Tommy. Nora and Scotty vie to be the best caretaker to Kevin during his recovery from the transplant surgery. Kitty tries to cover for Kevin at Robert’s office while also juggling an upcoming book tour. Meanwhile, a trip to Cooper’s show-and-tell forces Justin to examine his life.

I’m certainly happy to get the show back after two weeks off, and will hope that the writers will treat this storyline with more grace than the marketing department did. The only storyline that doesn’t sound so promising here is the Justin one, because, haven’t we done that about a billion times? Feels that way. He’s been out of the nest before, back in, at war, back in, if this fellow doesn’t find himself pretty soon, perhaps he and Tommy can move to France to run a vineyard and leave behind characters the writers seem to know what to do with. C’mon, can’t somebody find this kid something to do?

  1. Colleen Says:

It was great to catch a glimpse of Nigel Havers, but I want more! He’s back next time, right?

And I liked Justin’s story, for a change. And “brain sex.” The dreams? Not so much. I think the writers have been reading the wrong fanfiction.
