Tonight, grapes are wrathful, and Nora, too

Brothers & Sisters is new tonight, with an episode called “Grapes of Wrath.” ABC’s press release describes it as follows: “A celebration of Tommy’s new business venture turns to chaos, and Nora takes Holly to task when she gets just a bit too close.” So … wait, now … you mean, the Walkers have a party, and bad things happen? Gosh and golly gee, these folks’ parties are usually so smooth and sedate, models of entertaining decorum. Seriously, though: Have the Walkers ever hosted a celebration that didn’t turn to chaos? It’s a theme!
Show creator Jon Robin Baitz has a much lengthier episode run-down on his TV Guide blog, including this promise:
“There are moments in this week’s episode where everything I think Brothers & Sisters should come together perfectly; comedy and tragedy coexist — just like they do in real life, turning, dancing with each other in perpetuity. The episode has it all — male passions run amok, female passions threaten to cause thermonuclear war, farce, drunkenness, sorrow and laughter. In my humble opinion, a great episode.”
And again, sounds like just another Walker party to me. Baitz goes on to talk about the show’s writers and director, and to compare a battle between Nora and Holly to John Cassavetes’ A Woman Under the Influence. Doesn’t sound so fun when he describes it that way, but I’ve seen the promo with Nora picking up the cake and saying, “Oh, Holly,” so I have hope.
