The Globes love Sally and Rachel, but not their show

The Golden Globe nominees were announced the other day, and there’s good news and bad news for Brothers & Sisters.

The good news is that Sally Field was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama, and Rachel Griffiths for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Miniseries or TV Movie. Just like at the Emmys, and we can hope for better results — that would be both of them taking home trophies, instead of just Field.

But the bad news is that these two nominations represent the sum total for the show. Again, no nomination for Calista Flockhart, no nominations for any of the men on the show, and no nomination for the show as a whole. Even as B&S has found its footings in the ratings and stopped being beat on by critics, it still can’t get any awards respect.

So who are our actresses up against, and who beat out our actors and show?

Other nominees in Fields’ Best Actress category are Patricia Arquette (Medium), Glenn Close (Damages), Minnie Driver (The Riches), Edie Falco (The Sopranos), Holly Hunter (Saving Grace), and Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer).

Other nominees in Griffiths’ Best Supporting Actress category are Rose Byrne (Damages), Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy), Samantha Morton (Longford), Anna Paquin (Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee), and Jaime Pressly (My Name Is Earl).

Best Actor nominees in the TV Drama category are Michael C. Hall (Dexter), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Hugh Laurie (House), Bill Paxton (Big Love), and Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors).

Best Supporting Actor nominees for TV are Ted Danson (Damages), Kevin Dillon (Entourage), Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Andy Serkis (Longford), William Shatner (Boston Legal), and Donald Sutherland (Dirty Sexy Money).

And Best TV Series Drama nominees are Big Love, Damages, Grey’s Anatomy, House, Mad Men, and The Tudors.

Personally, I think B&S was robbed. What do you make of the nominations?

I can’t complain, because Rachel’s my girl, but I do wish B&S would have gotten some more recognition, they definitely deserve it! I think next year’s award season will be promising with Sarah’s divorce and Justin’s homecoming and whatever other crazy things occur this season.

I’m so happy Michael C. Hall and Bill Paxton are nominated! I love Dexter & Big Love (now, that’s another show that SHOULD be getting recognition like B&S!)

  2. Ian Says:

Honestly, I’m not surprised none of the guys got nominated - I don’t really think they get to show enough range (well, maybe Justin does, but not particularly well). I would be really annoyed if Calista doesn’t get a nomination in the Emmys next year, because she’s been acting her butt off this season.
