Surprise! Or not, if you watched the promo

A recap’s coming a little later today, but in the meantime, may I just say about this whole plot development involving Joe kissing Rebecca … aw, geez, did they really have to go there? It just sets up such an awful lot of unpleasantness, and there’s still enough unpleasantness from earlier plotlines to go around. Sarah and Joe have stuff to work out, sure, and Rebecca has a way to go to really feel integrated into the family, and now we have this bomb with the potential to blow everything up. The writers are good, and maybe they have some plan for this plot that will make me feel less disgusted as time goes by, but … right now, this morning, I’m pretty ticked at them.
Not nearly as much as I’m ticked at the ABC promo department, though. It’s not like I expect any sort of subtlety from promo people. But can someone sit them down and tell them that if the episode ends in a climactic surprise, IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA NOT TO REVEAL IT IN THE COMMERCIAL. Morons.
What do you all think about this twisted plot twist? Is Rebecca lying? Is Joe a scumbag? Are the writers mean? Sound off in the comments.

I think it’s rather an interesting development, especially given Joe and Sarah’s ongoing marital issues. I think it’s pretty ingenious that they didn’t show the kiss, so it’s a his-word-against-hers situaion, if it comes to that. If this comes out, which it will, then a battle of the Third Wheels will ensue. The whole family will have to decide who to trust - Joe, whom they’ve all known forever or Rebecca, who could be seen as the innocent victim of William’s affair. We don’t know her well - should could be lying about all of it - including her boyfriend in Chicago. Interesting how her description of him was much like Joe. Sarah is the one with the “almost affair” history - it will be interesting to see how she responds to Joe’s alleged dalliance, particularly in light of the fact that it was with a sister whom she’s trying to learn to trust.
I am aware that I’m talking about this all as if it’s real, so I’m going to stop.

If I had to bet, I’d say Rebecca is lying. So far the theme has been to portray her as a bit of a trouble-maker (dropping out of school, going against her mother, drugs at the party) and this is just another step. Also I think if Joe really did kiss her, they would have shown the kiss.
