Somebody, quick! Give Justin something to do

They say idle hands are the devil’s workshop … or maybe, in this case, spend too much time fooling around with Lena. At any rate, halfway through the season here, with the war story and the pain story tidily tucked away and the Lena story please, please, almost at the end, it’s hard to ignore the fact that our handsome young surfer-boy recovering-drug-addict returned-soldier Justin Walker has not a blessed thing to do.
Being a sweetly goofy underachiever has been working for the character thus far, but really, isn’t it time this fellow held a job or, at least, went back to school? Nora’s declared that it’s going to be a tough-love life for the guy from here on, and a good start might be to make him do something more productive than bedding his brother’s mistress.
With the writers out of commission, Justin’s journey may be more aimless than it ever was. But just to be helpful, here are a few ideas of what his immediate future might hold:
1. College. We heard that he dropped out, right? Time to drop back in. Heck, he and Nora could take writing classes together. Maybe he’s got some good war stories to tell.
2. Work. Something more promising than hotel bellboy, please. Since Tommy deserves a little torture, maybe Justin can take over Lena’s job at the winery. Ha!
3. Politics. It’s the family business now, too. Perhaps Robert and Kitty could use some assistance out on the campaign trail. Pin a button on him and send him on the road.
4. Advocacy. There’s all kinds of ways to get involved in politics, of course. Surely there’s a veteran’s political action committee that would like to have the young soldier brother-in-law of a senator/presidential candidate as a public face.
5. Reality TV. And surely, in L.A., there would be ample opportunities for a judgment-impaired hottie like Justin to make a fool of himself on national television.
6. Back to war. That’s where he told Rebecca he wanted to go when he was hitting the pain meds, and she’s probably was right that he was lying. Good way to get back at his mom, though.

I’ll say politics or college with Nora (that’ll serve him right). Definitely not #6: it was actually the Justin’s Return From WAR! and Justin vs. Pills storylines that made me temporarily switch off earlier this season — I’d have rather watched Tommy and Lena than all of that. I’ve been finding him increasingly annoying this season so I can’t say I’ve missed his not having much of a story — and here’s a for instance — when Kevin was helping him in the bath (which is definitely in the realms of Good Brotherly Behaviour) and Justin was all uber-testosterony and duddddeee, are these bubbles? Ugh.
That was a tangent. Sorry. But #1 or #3.

College sounds like a good plan with advocacy work thrown in for good measure. I refuse to believe that he will just be another “spoiled rich kid” character. I am very glad that the Lena story ended. He deserves something better to happen to him, I think.
Maybe college with his mom would work. He can also be in a plotline where he can befriend people from other cultures (the show is set in California, isn’t it? Surely, that’s a rich ground for contemporary issues that affect the nation.)He can be an advocate for multi-cultural issues - as he has been exposed other cultures during his stint in war.
Well, that maybe fanciful thinking on my part - but #1 and #4 are my choices.

I think Justin should become an EMT. He’s got the skills and the personality for the job. (And I am so missing “Saved,” which was such a great show about EMTs and their lives off the job.)
