Sally Field mothers another family
If you live in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Nashville, Dallas or Atlanta, you have a chance to see Mama Walker deal with a different set of dysfunctional siblings this weekend. In Two Weeks, debuting in those cities on March 2 and in Boston and Washington D.C. on March 16, Sally Field plays a woman dying of ovarian cancer, and Ben Chaplin, Tom Cavanagh, Julianne Nicholson and Glenn Howerton play the brothers and sister gathering for her final 14 days. There’s a trailer on the film’s website, and based solely on that, it sure seems to have a Brothers & Sisters vibe, especially with the youngest brother who feels his siblings don’t take him seriously. There’s a scene at the very end of the trailer, in which the mother hands her son a “list” of the things he should do in his life, that you can easily imagine Nora playing with any of her brood. Also on the site is a blog in which the film’s writer and director, Steve Stockman, talks about how amazing Sally Field is; a gallery of photos; and a place to submit stories of your own experience with dying loved ones. The movie was briefly released last year for Oscar consideration, which it didn’t get, and the reviews were not enthusiastic. But for fans of screwed-up-family drama, or those who have lived through a similar wrenching experience, it might be worth prying yourself away from the TV set and seeking it out. Anytime but Sunday at 10 p.m.
