Retcon Patrol 1-10: “Light the Lights” Part 2

Today we continue our look for inconsistent or comment-worthy moments in the Brothers & Sisters first season with a look at the second part of Episode 10. Read yesterday’s post for the first nine minutes or so, then hop right in here.

Well, there I was asking for more Nora-Paige scenes, and here’s this perfectly nice one at the Christmas tree lot, with the touching bit of business about Paige thinking if she was more Jewish, God would cure her diabetes, and all I can think is that it’s kind of Lifetime Movie material. I like Paige better when she’s tricky, not treacly.

Sarah can live with her deception of Holly. Me, not so much. I hate this plotline, and it makes it hard for me to watch this episode. And how is it a matter of weighing Holly’s well-being against the future of the company? Do they not have enough to pay back William’s debt without Holly’s third? They should have given her the money William wanted her to have and been done with her, although of course that would have given Patricia Wettig no reason to be around. At any rate, Vindictive Sarah bugs and disappoints me, and is her own worst enemy.
11:07
Saul, whichever part of his body he’s thinking with, is absolutely right about Sarah’s motives. Or maybe it’s that he said what I was just thinking.
11:52
Justin opines that the possibility of the family not having Christmas sucks. I bet “No Christmas? That Sucks!” would be Cooper’s new favorite Christmas carol.
11:57
Nora says they’re having Christmas and Hanukkah both. And isn’t there some secular humanist holiday they should include too?
12:04
Kitty’s happy they’re embracing their multiculturalism. Does two make a multi?
12:13
Nora’s dissing Martha Stewart. Can’t you just see Nora having a show on the Food Network, cooking things in her gorgeous kitchen and opining about matters political as she does it? She could knock off Rachael Ray with one withering glance.
12:20
Justin, Justin! Never doubt the ability of fried batter to provide comfort in time of spiritual crisis. Fried batter can solve just about any problem, temporarily, anyway. Unless … well, okay, unless you have diabetes, and can’t eat any.
12:30
Kitty suggests having Neil Diamond come over to sing Hava Nagila. No, but apparently they could have gotten Lyle Lovett.

Thank you for pointing out in such detail what drives me crazy about my favorite show…careless screw ups on the part of whoever is ultimately in charge of story and character development and continuity. It’s not like they can’t have twists and turns, but for goodness sake, make sure they make sense! Maybe things will be better this coming season, but I’m not getting my hopes up from what I’m hearing.
