Retcon Patrol 1-09: “Mistakes Were Made 2″ Part 5

Today we conclude our search for inconsistent or comment-worthy moments in the Brothers & Sisters first season with a look at the fifth and final part of Episode 9. Read Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4 if you need to catch up, then dive right in here with Part 5.
32:39
So the first time the photo/illegitimate child connection is made, Sarah’s all determined that Mom will never know about it. And the second time the photo/illegitimate child connection is made, she and Kevin immediately run over to Mom’s. Given what happened the first time, wouldn’t you think they would be even less likely to want Mom to know, at least until they’d tracked the kid down and done DNA tests?
32:50
Sarah says, of Rebecca, “We’re not talking about her anymore, ever again.” Oh, sister, you wish.
33:23
The opening intro for Kitty’s show includes “Obama mulls an ‘08 run.” So we’re in a universe here where both Obama and McCallister are doing that?
33:49
The idea that a journalist would have to make a public apology for the horrible offense of not asking a politician about his divorce in a political interview bothers me, whatever reason she had for not asking. I also think having Kitty speak out against the war is a cop-out for the writers, who probably find it hard to write a conservative character and so keep making her one in name only.
35:53
Tommy saves the day, and the wasted trip! He’s quite the smart one in this episode.
36:44
So what, was this some sort of game that William set up for his progeny, that they’d have to decode the password, find the land, find the bank, and find the easement to get the money and the letter for Mom? The box seems to have been set up in the event of his unexpected death, but he couldn’t have left a note about it someplace a little easier to find? Or with Saul, the Keeper of All Secrets?
36:59
When Kevin finds something surprising in the papers, Sarah says, sarcastically, “What, Dad used to be a woman?” No, no, the writers are saving that plot for Season 8 or 9. Turns out none of the kids are his.
37:40
I continue to completely not get this. William stole from the pension fund to buy some land that, when he dies, can be sold for big bucks. Only way that’s a smart move is if he planned to die quickly, so the pension-fund money would go right back. How was he going to pay the debt otherwise?
38:53
McCallister could use somebody like Kitty on his communications staff. Would that be somebody who tries to bribe politicians and then confesses to it on the air? Or somebody blonde and cute?
41:11
William’s letter to Nora, and especially Skerritt’s narration of it, sounds like it belongs at the end of a Hallmark TV movie. The inclusion of Paige getting a shot of insulin in the montage of images behind the reading is particularly appropriate.
And that’s five days of catch-up on Episode 9. Retcon Patrol will continue with “Light the Lights” the week of August 10.

I was just listening to that episode while cleaning the floor. This used to be a good episode, now it has lost all its goodness. That letter had me laughing outloud yelling, LIARRR!!!!! at my tv.
Ah, well, goes to show that a year ago I was just as big an idiot as Nora turns out to be, for actually believing that (cencored).
You think I could sue the writers for giving me instant cavities with all that sweetness?
Yugh!
*Turns out none of the kids are his.*
Mhmm, I thought none of the kids were Nora’s, but that William actually gave birth to them…

Yeah Terri, that SL about William embezzling the pension fund to buy the plot of land was pretty nonsensical.
Hmm maybe he was psychic and foresaw his own death? Sheesh.
Technicalities have never been the writers’ forte, have they?
