Retcon Patrol 1-09: “Mistakes Were Made 2″ Part 4

Today we continue our look for inconsistent or comment-worthy moments in the Brothers & Sisters first season with a look at the fourth part of Episode 9. Read Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 if you need to catch up, then dive right in here with Part 4.

“That island on Lost has more civilization than this place” says Sarah. Nice ABC product placement there.

I just love everything about this bar scene, from Sarah playing pool to Tommy being protective to Kevin finding a friend. There was so much in this two-episode arc that was melodramatic and nonsensical, but this bar interlude pretty much makes up for it.
24:21
If Tommy was so concerned about Sarah getting out of hand, he might have thought about not buying her whiskey.
24:55
David’s got a scratch on his head and says it was a run-in with some siding. Wouldn’t it be more fun if he was actually making time with wives and widows all over the greater Pasadena area, and that siding was being swung by somebody’s husband?
25:44
“I really think you should run screaming from me as if you were on fire.” Good advice for many of the folks who fall into the Walkers’ dating clutches.
26:24
David says he’ll be around. Surely Nora’s going to have something that needs to be nailed in Season 3?
27:34
This scene with Flashback Justin and Nora in the kitchen, her with the bad wig, he frantically searching through the phonebook, talking about how he has to get away … when she gets all intense with “You’re my whole life!” I half expect her to take out a butcher knife and forcibly imprison him in a small room in the attic. Something a little creepy there.
28:13
This was the last time Sarah got to have fun on this show for a long, long time.
29:44
“You remember every bad thing I’ve ever done, don’t you?” asks Kitty. Oh, sweetie, that’s what mothers are for.
30:50
What is this sight in the kitchen, garnering such puzzled looks from Kitty and Nora? Why, it’s Responsible Justin! Whatever happened to that guy? I thought he was going to be around for a while, but then came the injury and the drugs and the Lena, and now he’s dating his sister. Come back, Responsible Justin!

I still think that line from Kevin, when the soldier talks about it being a ’sausage-fest’ or something, that smile of Kevin’s as he says: “That’s pretty… terrible!”
You are right that scene in the bar made up for so much in that episode. I do believe they should sent Sarah on more road-trips… Just think that in the current situation it would not be so smart to put Kevin and Tommy in one car….

Road Trip Sarah! I did my best last weekend to channel her - and Karaoke Sarah - at Michael’s of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, a great karaoke bar. I can’t sing, so I didn’t subject the other patrons to “Believe,” but I did manage to rap out “Hit the Road, Ted!” (that would be the Evil Ex’s payback name) with my friends. We were in Stockbridge for the remarkable new production of “Waiting for Godot,” which is funny and powerful and moving. Now all I have to do is get the divorce, which is getting fast-tracked next Friday. Not happy, just relieved.
Steven Weber is on my TV right now, guest starring on “Psych.”
