Retcon Patrol: 1-06 “For the Children” Part 2

Today we continue our look for inconsistent or comment-worthy moments in the Brothers & Sisters first season with a look at the second part of Episode 6. Read yesterday’s post for the first ten minutes or so, then hop right in here.
11:46
“Sarcasm is the refuge for people who know they are wrong and are on the ropes,” says Nora. But it makes for amusing TV shows.
11:53
Kitty honestly owns no formalwear? Nora says Kitty needs a dress for the benefit like she’s a teenager getting a new frock for the prom.
12:25
Nora tells Kitty if she doesn’t go to the party, she’ll be an anti-social non-participating sad sack who people think of as aloof. But I’m surprised she didn’t use something like, “You wanted to be part of this family so badly that you made me take down that family portrait, this is what being part of the family means.”
13:03
Meredith Baxter’s name appears in the credits. How many eons has it been since she had “Birney” at the end of her name? Yet I still think of her as three-named.
13:24
“Saul, you’re dating my father’s mistress,” says Sarah, and adds that she can’t possibly be worth it. “I happen to think she is very much worth it,” says Saul. They sure seemed to be setting up a “Saul has long crushed on Holly from afar” thing for a while there. I guess we could spin it now that he chose someone unattainable for a reason, and once she was suddenly attainable he couldn’t follow through with it.
14:55
You know, it would have been easier to invest in the possibility of romance between Kitty and Warren if Warren wasn’t such a jerk. He’s like an Attention Deficit Dater.
15:18
Boy, these Walkers are so smooth in their dating come-ons. Both Kitty and Kevin ask a guy to the ball by describing it as boring and awful and stupid. No wonder they both get turned down.
15:44
Poor Kevin. I’ve always thought Scotty came down too hard on him for offering to pay for party attendance — his intentions were good, even if his execution was clumsy.
16:00
Speaking of Kevin putting his foot in his mouth … is this the same place that he had the disastrous first coffee date with Jason? I remember it being a small table outdoors like this, maybe the same table.
16:22
Seeing Nora with a crown and wings and sword doing Paige and Cooper’s bidding makes me realize that we don’t see Grandma babysitting enough. Hardly ever, really. Yet wouldn’t you expect that she’d do it an awful lot?
16:29
“I like it when they destroy things. It reminds me not to be too attached to material objects,” says Nora. Boy, if more people felt that way when my son was younger, we could have gone to people’s houses now and again.
16:48
Joe says “If anybody can keep Ojai out of bankruptcy, it’s your daughter” — thinking, of course, that Nora’s mention of money issues means Sarah’s come clean with her. Oh, Joe. You’re such a dolt. Didn’t your conversation with Kitty a few episodes ago teach you that you should never ever discuss your wife with any member of her family? He’s doomed.
17:05
Nora pumps Joe for information with, “Whatever you’re afraid of Sarah doing to you, I’m her mother. It stands to reason I’m the one who taught her how.” Well, I don’t know. You probably can’t divorce him, or make him sleep on the couch. Seems kind of cruel of Nora to force Joe to spill when we know she could perfectly well guilt Sarah into telling.

Terri, hope your family had a great holiday! Great special needs holiday tips, too;thx!
Well, doesn’t that comment about Sarah keeping Ojai solvent look ironic now? Foreshadowing?
And what a great treat to find Sarah Jane Morris in a big role on”Please Note,” tonight’s new ep of Law & Order:CI. She was great, and anybody who missed it can catch the rerun on USA several times this week. Go SJ!

Great observation about Nora and Paige. I hope we see more scenes with Paige and Cooper in season 3.
Yeah, Scotty’s hurt feeling about Kevin’s offer was as much about Scotty’s insecurities as Kevin’s foot-in-mouth problem. They both needed to grow and understand each other before they could really be a couple.

It sure looked the same and I think he even made his appointment with Chad there at the start of 1.15.

That’s the only coffee place all of them hang out at. All “outside coffee” scenes of B&S is at this place. I think it’s called North Lake or North Light Coffee or something similar.
