Five Questions: “An American Family”

1. Doesn’t that Heroes Handbook that Nora’s toting around have anything about being respectful to people who are just trying to do their jobs? I mean really, that scene where she’s brow-beating the soldier at the desk to get her security pass was really not okay in so many ways. For one thing, I think she’s seriously underestimating what it would take to make a soldier blush.
2. Is Rebecca confused about what it takes to be a Walker? She seems to think it has something to do with the having of secrets, and certainly this is a family for whom secrets are a way of life. But I’d say that it’s not so much the having of secrets that makes you a Walker, it’s the spilling of them at really inappropriate times, and Rebecca’s showing a real knack at that. Telling Sarah the truth right after Joe and Sarah have had another painful parting? Welcome to the family, girl!
3. When Robert, her fiance, the love of her life, calls, Kitty’s phone tells her it’s “Robert McCallister”? Seems a little formal, no? I mean, I don’t need some sort of cutesy ringtone or little heart animation or anything, but at least cut it down to “Robert,” you know?
4. When Justin says he’s using his crutches to prove he’s “still me,” does he mean “irresponsible and self-destructive”? Just sit in the darn wheelchair, man, and keep the kiddies off your knee. You’ll be dark and damaged enough with the pain that’s coming, without doing wheelies through the doorway. And no surfing for, like, at least a week.
5. Was the parallel between Nora, Kitty and Kevin picking Justin up at jail in Season 1 and picking Justin up at the hospital in Season 2 on purpose? It’s kind of cute this one time, but you know, if we’re going to be on an endless once-a-season loop of these three flouting rules to get to the boy, followed by the boy being all prickly and upset, it’s going to get old. Let’s have someone go pick Nora up from jail next year, ’cause that’s where her mouth’s going to land her if she doesn’t watch out.

I don’t think it sayig Robert McCallister is too formal. After all somebody like her is bound to know a few Roberts, maybe even in the same office and so she needs a last name on there. In my cell phone I always put last names because I have a few people who share the same name.
