More girl trouble for the Walkers?

ABC announced its official fall schedule yesterday, and as expected, Brothers & Sisters will remain in its 10 p.m. Sunday slot, following Desperate Housewives. That puts it in the path of NBC’s Lipstick Jungle, based on a novel by Sex in the City author Candace Bushnell and starring Brooke Shields, Kim Raver and Lindsay Price as ambitious women stopping at nothing to get ahead in their careers. Bad enough the Walkers have Holly and Rebecca out to trip them up, now we’ve got these three chicks on their tail, too.
Of course, our show has a headstart — Lipstick Jungle doesn’t debut until January 2008, after football. But it has a handicap, too. Show-runner Greg Berlanti will be moving on, since he had two pilots picked up by ABC — Dirty Sexy Money, debuting in the fall, and Eli Stone, stepping in somewhere come midseason. Executive producer Ken Olin is also involved with Stone, with other B&S creative personnel divided among shows. Will that brain drain slow down the mother-show, or will Jon Robin Baitz be able to keep it racing along?
B&S survived a pretty bumpy start this season and grew nicely into a show that’s receiving plenty of buzz, if not top ratings. A bumpy start to the second season may not be so easy to recover from. Here’s hoping for a strong start, so that by January the competition will be fearing Brothers & Sisters instead of the other way around. If not, invite Brooke and Co. over for Game Night, and sic Paige on ‘em. They’ll be gone by February.

ABC Pres Steve MacPherson noted that Berlanti will be staying on B&S in some executive capacity, so that’s certainly some relief.
