Marin Hinkle joins another show with “and” in the title

Hide your eyes if you want to stay spoiler-free. Hidden? Good.
Last week, I wondered about the potential casting choices for Courtney McCallister, Robert’s ex-wife. Nobody jumped in with guesses, and now it’s too late, because the part is cast. And the role of the latest witch on the Walker radar goes to … Marin Hinkle!
The item from TV Guide’s Ausiello Report refers only to Hinkle’s current role as Jon Cryer’s ex-wife on Two-and-a-Half Men, but to me she will always, always be Judy, the flaky sister of Sela Ward’s Lily on Once and Again, a show I still miss. As such, I’m happy to have her on B&S, although it does sound like her character’s trouble. More from Ausiello:
“She’ll appear in one episode this fall, but it’s likely she’ll be back for more. In the episode, Courtney goes on a Larry King Live-type talk show to discuss her estranged hubby’s bid for the White House — further inflaming tensions between the two.”
Who else was in the running for the part? I can’t figure it out, but another Ausiello column, yesterday’s Ask Ausiello, offers this riddle: “***e *a*** was in talks to play McAllister’s bitchy ex-wife, but the deal fell apart in the 11th hour.” Guesses?
And while we’re gossiping, Kristen of E! drops the following spoiler-y news about Julia:
“Mr. and Mrs. Rourke, Julia’s parents, are making an appearance this season to help their daughter cope—and they’re threatening to take Julia back home with them.”
And in answer to a question about Sarah Jane Morris: “We spoke to her at TCA, and she’s more than psyched for the second year to get started. It sounds as though her character, Julia, has a larger role coming up. Just found out we’ll be meeting her parents pretty soon, too, and getting to know a bit more about Julia’s backstory.”
Well, I’m all for Julia getting a bigger part — it could hardly be smaller than last year. Not sure how her parents taking her away makes that happen. Maybe that’s why she’s been MIA so often in Season 1? Her parents keep bringing her home? Fight back, Julia! Fight for your right to say lines along with everyone else! Maybe it would help if you were bitchy.

Well, I’m somewhat perplexed as to how this version of Courtney could have produced the very blonde Sofia!
I had definitely imagined the ex to be an icy blonde. And I have no idea to whom the asterisk quiz could be referring, I’m afraid.

My guess was Hope Davis - though the only reason she comes to mind is probably because I recently saw her in Proof. I’m sure a lot of other names fit!
Love the blog, by the way - this is my first comment so I couldn’t not give you some love.

Thanks for the love, Ian!
And Hope Davis is a great guess. She would also solve the hair-color problem that Diane raises.
Maybe Kitty and Sofia can bond over their blondness.
