Lots of Brothers & Sisters love from TV Guide
The new issue of TV Guide has some nice previews and comments about Brothers & Sisters, the little show that could.
The magazine’s “Hot List” includes this about the May 20 season finale: “Don’t even try to hide the tears as a war-bound Justin bids adieu to the family we’ve all grown to love during their superb first season.”
“Cheers & Jeers” piles on Joe: “Jeers to John Pyper-Ferguson for emerging as Brothers & Sisters’ weak link. As washed-up musician Joe Whedon, the journeyman actor seems a bit out of his league opposite skillful costars like Rachel Griffiths and Sally Field. And now we’re supposed to believe his gorgeous 20-year-old half sister-in-law (Emily VanCamp) would throw herself at this guy? Oh, Brothers!”
A big photo of the family tops off an article on “A Season of Hits — and Misses.” The text, with a different photo, is available on the TV Guide site, with a nice couple of paragraphs on how B&S started out unpromising and became “a drama to cherish” and an online-only subhead of “How we underestimated Brothers & Sisters and overestimated many others.”
A round-up of “Hot Finales” includes that May 20 episode again: “The season ends on a bittersweet note for the Walker clan. We’ll finally see Justin (Dave Annable) board the plane to Iraq — don’t worry, creator Jon Robin Baitz promises he’ll be back next season. But not before the entire clain comes together to celebrate the engagement of Kitty (Calista Flockhart) and Senator McCallister (Rob Lowe). Still, the biggest jaw-dropper belongs to Saul (Ron Rifkin). ‘There is the beginning of a revelation about the nature of Uncle Saul’s love life,’ Baitz says. Do tell!” Accompanying the item is a photo of “The engaging Lowe and Flockhart.”
And finally, one more plug, with one more Lowe-Flockhart photo, under May 20’s “Highlights”: “The exquisite first season closes with the Walkers saying good-bye to one of their own and hello to a houseful of McCallister relatives during Kitty’s engagement party.”
Love seeing all these mentions for a show that, at one point during the season, couldn’t get arrested. For those of us who have been watching from the start … it feels good, doesn’t it?
