Life imitates art, alas
Well, I suppose you wouldn’t actually call the Tommy-Lena story arc art. But the sinking feeling I got when I read a TV Guide item in which Balthazar Getty acknowledges he’s separated from his wife (Rosetta, right) in the wake of photos of him on a yacht with a topless Sienna Miller was similar to the one I had when Tommy, for reasons still not understandable by me, took up with Lena while Julia was out of town.
Unlike Tommy, though, Getty can’t use the excuse that the writers made him do it.
Since Miller had previously been linked to Matthew Rhys, we even have an echo of that hand-me-down girlfriend thing from Season 2.
Apparently when this rumor first went live in the tabloids a while back, some folks were calling for Getty to lose his job. And that’s just ridiculous. However you feel about infidelity, it’s a pretty undeniable fact that if every television actor who strayed got fired, we’d be watching a lot of test patterns.
Come to think of it, cheating on your spouse isn’t a firing offense much of anywhere — maybe if you’re a clergyperson, or you work for your in-laws. Doesn’t seem to have many repercussions for the heads of fictional fruit and wine companies, anyway.
Still, there’s something a little weird about the way show storylines are reverberating. First Rob Lowe has a real-life nanny scandal, and now this. Next we’ll be hearing that Dave Annable’s dating his sister. You heard it here first.
(Oh, wait. That one kind of went the other direction, didn’t it?)

Getty’s wife is named Rosetta. Anna was the author of the TVGuide article and the name on the photo caption must have gotten mixed up.

Thanks for the catch, Mariana! It’s actually more than a name mix-up. The photo that TV Guide has with the item is in fact of Anna Getty, his half-sister according to IMdB. I just picked up another photo of the same woman and brought over the same name.
I’ve got the right photo and the right name up now. Sorry I didn’t check better before publishing.

I’ve been out of town at Comic Con, so I missed this one, but, unfortunately, had plenty of airplane time to see the pictures. Sorry, Terri, but I disagree with you. He’s just gross. Screwing around on your wife with your co-star’s sometimes ex, getting busted for it, and lying about it just reiterates the need for me to not see his face anymore. He disgusts me, and I hope ABC feels the same way.
