Ken Olin grabs a guest-star gig for himself
Another day, another guest-star arc announced for Brothers & Sisters. This time, though, at least it’s a member of the family. Hollywood Insider is reporting that B&S executive producer and director Ken Olin is moving to the acting side of the camera for three episodes as “a former lover of Holly Harper who comes back into her life and exposes some personal secrets.” Secrets, on this show? Naaah.
Holly, of course, is played by Olin’s wife, Patricia Wettig, and their son, Cliff, a B&S writer, may pen one of the episodes. Olin and Wettig appeared together before on thirtysomething, more years ago than I’m sure any of us cares to count. According to IMDb, his last acting credit was in 2002, although he’s been quite busy with producing and directing jobs.
It will be interesting to see Olin act again, but the character worries me. There’s been a lot of speculation as to how the writers will resolve the fact that Dave Annable and Emily VanCamp have rather too much chemistry to play brother and sister. Some have wondered whether Nora might have had a secret dalliance that takes Justin out of Rebecca’s gene pool, or whether Holly will turn out to have been opportunistic instead of honest about Rebecca’s true paternity. An old lover emerging from the past with secrets sounds like they’re leaning toward the latter, but it could be a fake-out. I hope so, actually, because otherwise, hasn’t the whole Rebecca plotline thus far been one then, too?
