Jon Robin Baitz is not going anywhere
Good news! According to TV Guide, Jon Robin Baitz, creator of Brothers & Sisters and co-writer of this past Sunday’s episode with Jennifer Cecil, has signed a two-year, seven-figure contract with ABC to keep up with the Walkers and also develop new shows.
Apparently, one thing that contract does not include is an obligation to appear on the “Writer’s Room” videos ABC’s got going, because although Cecil makes the scene to discuss “History Repeating,” her co-writer is nowhere to be found. Taking his place for the vodcast is show runner and executive producer Mark Perry.
Knowing Baitz is locked in for a couple more years is good news. And there’s more news to celebrate for B&S fans:
+ According to USA Today, the show was #17 in the Nielsen ratings for the week of October 14, and #9 among viewers age 18-49, which are the only ones anybody seems to really care about, right?
+ ABC has given us not one, not two, but three cute little promos for next Sunday’s episode on the B&S site, all of them showcasing silly spa hijinks by Kitty, Sarah and Nora. If you just can’t wait for all the fun, get in on a little of it now.
+ Not so fun, according to critics? Viva Laughlin, which premieres tonight at 10 p.m. on CBS. And that’s good news because the sooner it flops, the sooner we can have Eric Winter back. The actor plays a cop on that show, and Jason McCallister, Kevin’s Malaysia-sojourning Reverend Boyfriend, on B&S. Success for VL might mean permanent missionary deployment for Jason, so it’s comforting to hear the show described as, variously, “really bad,” “a snail-paced snooze,” “a disaster,” and “a 15-car pile-up of a TV show.” Reading those previews (and do read them — they’re pretty funny), I’m feeling more and more confident that Jason is going to make short work of that building project and be back to test Kevin’s ability to have an actual relationship in no time.
