Five questions: “Something Ida This Way Comes”
In advance of a full recap, here are five questions from last night’s episode that are tickling my brain this morning.
1. Does the whole Walker family need to go to rehab? I’ve wondered about this before, but bad party or no, you ought to be able to go an evening without a drink. But even Granny’s asking for booze from the moment the party starts, Nora and Saul scour the kitchen for little liquor bottles, and the sibs wind up stuffed in a closet swilling wine, toasting the brother they’re supposed to be protecting from alcohol exposure. Um, people? The first step is recognizing you have a problem.
2. Does Kitty keep a corkscrew in her closet? And, like, wine glasses? I guess they grabbed the glasses before heading into the closet and probably picked up a bottle opener, too, but man, that’s a nicely equipped bar she’s got there amid the shoes.
3. Is Tyler psychic? Or am I the only one who thought her logic leap from Justin saying he’s been called back to combat and knowing he found out the same day he fell off the wagon a little abrupt? It’s good that she got it and was a little less mad at him afterward, but still. Maybe a “When did you find out?” first? It almost seemed like they ran out of time for the episode and had to snip the scene.
4. Why was Nora so charmed by the senator? Alright, he is Rob Lowe, and he does get all the cute lines. But he’s a Republican, and she’s never been one to let politics slide. Note to future Kitty suitors: If you cook in Nora’s kitchen, she’ll hate you. If you bring your own personal chef to cook in Nora’s kitchen, she’ll love you. Go figure.
5. How funny are those Match.com ads coming on during all this relationship dysfunction? It was particularly humorous last week, when there was a whole plotline about matchmakers, but still. Is the demographic that watches B&S presumed to be lonely and loveless? Or is the complete inability of the Walkers to make good matches for themselves thought to be a good thematic match-up?
